WHAT IS A HAIR TRANSPLANT IN IBIZA?
A hair transplant consists of transplanting hair from areas where its density is always maintained (such as the sides of the head or the nape of the neck) to the parts affected by alopecia.
To guarantee the success of the hair transplant, the patient’s donor area should be sufficiently dense so that when the follicles are removed from it, it continues to maintain an adequate level of hair.
WHAT TYPES OF HAIR TRANSPLANTS ARE THERE?
There are two types of hair transplants depending on the technique used, the F.U.S.S. technique and the F.U.E. technique.
- The U.S.S. technique (Follicular Unit Strip Surgery), less used, consists of transplanting strips of skin with hair (15 to 20 cm long and 1 cm wide). This technique will leave a small scar in the donor area that will be covered if the hair in this area exceeds one centimetre in length.
- With the U.E. technique (Follicular Unit Extraction) the follicles or follicular units are extracted individually, one by one. It has the advantage of not leaving scars.
The methods used are the same for both men and women. During the preliminary evaluation, our specialists always advise the patient on the most effective technique for his or her case.
EIVIESTETIC HAIR IMPLANT FAQS
1. Which is the best time of the year to do the hair implant?
It can be done all year round It is better when it is not very sunny but you only have to put a cap on if you go to the beach or sunbathe walking to avoid the mark of the scars of the incisions. But apart from that and that during the first month we should not do any high intensity sport that causes excessive perspiration, you do not require any other special care.
2. How long does the operation take?
It is a long operation, taking from 6 to 8 hours, Depending on each patient and is a very laborious operation, we have to make 3000 holes (to put an actual number on it), remove those 3000 F.U. (follicular unit is not hairs, an F.U. can have up to 5 hairs), order and prepare those 3000 F.U. obviously make the 3000 incisions and finally put those 3000 F.U. in, in short, it is a laborious job, which to do well requires time and expertise of professionals who perform it to obtain natural and optimal results.
3. Do I have to be admitted to hospital?
NO, it is a minor surgery, no kind of hospital admission before or after is necessary, but the presence of a qualified doctor to avoid any mishap is necessary, however.
4. When will I be able to return to normal life after the operation?
The next day obviously not, but many of our patients after 2-3 days already carry out their normal life, with just a few hygiene steps, after 10 days in the vast majority of cases there are no more remains of wounds or scabs, and after a month they can return to high intensity sport.
5. Do I have to shave my head before the operation?
The F.U.E. technique has better results if we shave the donor area, or some areas, since, in order to extract that follicular unit, we need the hair to be short; the receiving area however can be done with implants or incisions, but it is better in most cases to shave for better results.
6. If so, how many days before?
The same day in the clinic or if you want the day before. If the hair is grey or white, it is advisable to dye the hair a medium brown colour to see the F.U. as white hair is not white, but rather transparent, and we could not see the F.U.
7. Do I have to undergo any previous treatment before the operation?
In some cases we recommend starting a pharmacological treatment with products of proven repopulation efficacy, to increase the density and thickness of a patient’s hair before surgery and obtain a better result.
8. What medical tests are necessary for the intervention?
An analysis of some parameters determined by the medical team in each patient, after a preliminary consultation, are necessary to check their health condition and if they have any pathology that requires any special protocol in the operating room. Sometimes, and according to the possible pathologies of the customers, we may request some specific tests, such as Chest X-ray, Electrocardiogram … depending on the associated pathologies.
9. When will I start to see the results?
If only it was a cosmetic operation with fast results!
Unfortunately we have to explain that an exact evaluation of the operation cannot be made until 10-12 months, and the patient, one month after the operation, generally has a post-operative hair loss that makes the first 2-3 months (shock loss) difficult for the patient; from the 4th or 5th month onwards the hair starts to grow and little by little all the F.U.s that were put in place during the operation start to grow.
10. Is the operation uncomfortable? Does it hurt?
The needle pricks of first anaesthesia hurt, but with trunk anaesthesia techniques this is quite a lot less painful, during the rest of the intervention the patient is without pain.
11. How long do I need to plan the operation from accepting the budget?
As soon as we have the diagnostic tests that we need, we will adjust the surgeries with the available schedules, including weekends.
12. How many subsequent check-ups will be performed after the operation and how often are they?
This depends, in some cases, on each patient; a first postoperative control is usually done 24-48 hours after the surgery and later we plan a schedule of check-ups and adjustment of subsequent treatments, normally at one month, 3, 6 and 12 months.
13. Will I have to come to Ibiza for the check-ups?
The day after the operation or two days later, the bandage is removed and a doctor checks that everything is correct. Afterwards, the patient can make any consultations he wishes, which do not always have to be in person, since remote consultations can be made using mobile phone photos, although we recommend that if you have any complications or doubts, you should come to the consultation in person.
14. After the intervention, what recommendations would you make for the treatment as effective as possible?
After the operation, a doctor will explain the protocols to be followed, both at the post-surgical level of the grafted hair and at the subsequent levels of hair care, in order to preserve the hair that we have not grafted on the patient and that this not only does not fall out, but is strengthened and is not miniaturised.
15. Do I have to take medication before, during and after the operation? What medication?
We will adjust the medical treatment according to the patient, recommending antiandrogens and vasodilators (finasteride and minoxidil), before and after. We recommend associating some specific micronutrient complexes according to the type of alopecia and PRP therapy, mesotherapy with dutasteride, low frequency laser … and directly after surgery an antibiotic, medical analgesic and postural care.
16. Will I be provided with medication at Eiviestetic?
In some cases we give a preliminary treatment to strengthen the patient’s hair but not in all cases; during the operation the medication will be provided by Eiviestetic and, after the operation the doctor will recommend to each patient the necessary medication in each case that he will buy at the chemists’ of his choice with the prescriptions that we will provide. For more comfort, if the patient prefers, we can provide this medication in Eiviestetic.

TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER THE HAIR TRANSPLANT
It is important that during first few days the patient does not do any sport or sudden movements and avoids any rubbing against the treated area.
As for washing the hair, it should be done with warm water and gentle movements. Once the scab has fallen off, the usual method can be used again.
Other recommendations are:
- Avoiding exposure to the sun.
- Avoid movements that involve sweating of the scalp.
- No swimming at the beach or in the pool.
RECOVERY PROCESS AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT
Recovery after a hair transplant is fast. The transplanted hair will fall out after a week, but afterwards (about two months) hair will grow back that will never fall out. In Eiviestetic we make a first evaluation free of charge, in which the patient will have all the necessary information for his or her implant. We offer financing the treatment.
